These short first birthday studio sessions capture your baby’s personality with a few classic portraits followed by a fun cake smash. The focus is on keeping the experience relaxed, joyful, and easy for both baby and parents.

My studio is located in downtown Cheyenne. I will provide a clean backdrop and simple setup, and parents bring the cake and a few small decorations that match their birthday celebration.

What Parents Bring

To keep the session personalized and aligned with your birthday celebration, parents bring:

The birthday cake
A few small decorations that match the party theme (banner, balloons, etc.)
Baby’s outfits (option to bring two, one before cake and one for cake)

Decorations should be minimal so the focus stays on your baby. A banner and a few balloons photograph beautifully.

This mom was doing a Hungry Caterpillar theme, so she brought a banner, a cake and some books.

HAVE QUESTIONS?

A small cake with soft frosting works best. A 6-inch cake is perfect. Avoid very dark frosting colors, as they can stain clothing and skin. Simple cakes photograph beautifully.

Less is best!

A banner and a few balloons are usually perfect. This keeps the focus on your baby and keeps the setup clean and timeless. Please do NOT bring a number one balloon. We spend the entire session making sure it’s turned the correct way and they are too tall to photograph well.

That’s completely normal! Some babies dive right in while others are more curious and gentle. Either way, we capture adorable moments and genuine expressions.

Simple outfits photograph best. Many parents bring one outfit for portraits and another for the cake smash, but one outfit is perfectly fine too. Carters has great, simple options.
