Madison is such a gem. Photographing so many different people over the years has taught me that certain people just have a talent for being in front of the camera. Madison is one of those people. In person, she’s confident, spunky, and articulate. I love that these images captured all of those qualities and more — a quiet vulnerability that most people rarely let show in photos.

The biggest challenge I have as a portrait photographer is convincing people to let their guard down enough during a portrait session to capture something authentic about who they are as a person. In her book, Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead, Brene Brown says “Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage.”

Madison, thanks for showing up with truth and courage. It was an honor to take your senior photos. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!

We started Madison’s senior photos in my studio at the Second Floor at the Paramount, and then moved onto Riske Field at Cheyenne Central High School before going to Old Town Fort Collins for the rest of her session.
