Planning anything in Wyoming can be tricky, but being a wedding photographer here in Cheyenne makes me often wish I had a crystal ball. A story to illustrate....

Elsa and Quintin and I started heading out of town one evening for their engagement photos. I had checked the weather about five times that day. No precipitation was forecasted. Nowhere on the Weather Channel app did it say that hurricane-force winds would greet us immediately as we left town. Dirt was flying across the road in big brown clouds. I've never done this before, but we pulled over on the way out of town and decided to reschedule for later that week. I am so glad we did! Between the crazy weather and the smoke from nearby fires, this fall season has been a bit of a rollercoaster. We ended up having a gorgeous evening later on that week.

I am so thankful for clients who trust my judgment and allow me some flexibility. I would so much rather have a relaxed, stress-free evening than rush through something in between rain storms or gusts of wind. Part of the reason I do engagement photos with every wedding package is so that I can get to know you as a couple in a relaxed setting before your big day. I want to see who you really are while you are together, not rush through a series of poses that don't really tell anything about your story.

Elsa and Quintin have this easy going way that was SO much fun to capture. They've known each other since childhood, and I could instantly sense that they knew how to have fun together. They also have this natural, quiet way of interacting that tells me they've been through quite a bit of life together already.

My approach to engagement sessions is to put you in situations where you have to react together. We move around, climb hills, and laugh a lot. I might make you do something goofy so I can see how you respond. For part of the session, I will probably back up, shoot from afar and just let you be together. I'm more interested in the story of your connection to each other than I am in some posed ideal.

I had an absolute blast with these two. Elsa and Quintin, thanks for your flexibility that week of your photos. And thanks for being so awesome when we finally got to do your session. I truly can't wait for your big day! Congrats!
