This Dubois, Wyoming wedding topped off our 2020 season perfectly last fall. We were so excited when Alynne called to ask us to photograph her small wedding near Dubois and Crowheart. We had the most gorgeous October day for it, and the scenery could not have been more beautiful. I was also obsessed with Alynne's dress - it had the perfect shimmer in that fall sunlight, and she was absolutely stunning in it.

Alynne and Mick's day overall was simple and heartfelt. Like other couples in 2020, they originally had a bigger wedding planned and opted for a small ceremony of close friends to tie the knot.

While I'm sad that couples' original plans have been shifted due to COVID-19, I have to admit that there is a part of me that believes wedding planning might be changed for the better after this pandemic. Ultimately, all of these restrictions have illuminated what's really important about weddings - the people who have shaped who you are, individually and as a couple. My hope is that we have a different focus as things start to open up. I hope we become more grateful for the people in our lives and never take for granted sharing special moments with them.

I believe the wedding industry in general needs to become more genuine and less focused on "things." My hope is that we become more focused on the stories of the people who make up the fabric of each wedding day. This is something I've spoken about for years after watching countless brides fret about details that they truly won't care about in 10 years' time. I hope the wedding industry, from the vendors to the couples to the bridal magazines, will take note of what's left after COVID-19 stripped weddings down to the bare bones. For me, what's left is what's most important - people, stories, and connection.

Alynne and Mick, thank you for allowing Liz and me to photograph your perfect, simple, amazing day. We were truly honored.
