With Tips for How to Plan for Inclement Weather on Your Big Day

Renee and Curran had a rainy day for their wedding at the Tapestry House in Fort Collins. Despite the weather, it was an amazing day. Renee's color scheme and details were simply stunning. From her gorgeous shoes, unique dress, and trendy ponytail, everything was perfectly on point. I loved that she also included a carefully planned guest attire color scheme with her invitation. And if you've been to my studio yet, you know this color scheme is perhaps my favorite.

If you're planning a wedding at Little America in Cheyenne, you might recognize Renee. She is the catering and wedding manager for that venue. So, needless to say, this girl knows what she's doing when it comes to planning a wedding! Can we just give honor to the fact that her getting-ready room also matched her color scheme?!

Although the rain somewhat cleared in time for the ceremony, it was still sprinkling. If you're planning a wedding at the Tapestry House in Fort Collins, rest assured that they are going to help you throughout your day. Their wonderful staff made sure that all chairs were wiped down for guests to sit, and they provided umbrellas for everyone. No one seemed to mind the rain, and it made for absolutely gorgeous photos.

The rain added a touch of unexpected chaos, but it didn't dampen spirits. Instead, it created some fun memories. One thing to think about as you plan for your big day is to think about what you absolutely want to happen, no matter what goes wrong.

Tips for Planning for Inclement Weather

Obviously, you want everything to go smoothly and exactly how you originally planned, but outdoor ceremonies present a bit of a wild card in terms of weather. If you absolutely want to get married outside, no matter what, make sure your venue coordinator and your close friends and family know this. In fact, even if you have a planner or a coordinator, assign one of your closest friends as your decision point person. Have a discussion with that person about the things that you feel are non-negotiable on your wedding day. If it's being outside for the ceremony no matter what, ask that person to help you remember that on your wedding day and advocate for you.

The reason I say this, is that on the day of a wedding, there can be a lot of cooks in the kitchen. A lot of people have big opinions about what should happen on your day. And you might not be in a state of mind to truly advocate for what you really want. Assign someone to help remind you of your deepest wishes for your day. That person can help you focus on what is important to you, and they might help prevent you from looking back on the day with tinges of regret for how it played out.

And lastly, if you decide that outside is a must no matter what, have a plan. Renee's team obviously made sure chairs were dry for guests and that they had umbrellas. Renee didn't want the bridal party to have them, so they braved the sprinkles. And truly, everything was absolutely beautiful.

From a photographer's standpoint, I actually love light rain. Clouds create beautiful light and the rain brings out amazing color everywhere.

Despite the initial weather setback, the day turned out to be an incredible celebration full of joy. So, even though the rain tried to steal the show, it couldn't overshadow the joy and happiness that filled the day. Congratulations, Renee and Curran!
